Purpose

Know exactly what's running where.

The standard

  • Semantic versioning MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH. Breaking = major; feature = minor; fix = patch.

  • Web apps: version bumps on release; the deployed version is shown in the footer/about and in Vercel env NEXT_PUBLIC_APP_VERSION.

  • Plugins/add-ins: assembly version = tag; users must be able to see it in the tool's About.

  • Tags vX.Y.Z on main; GitHub Release created with auto-generated notes from PR titles (03.04 makes this readable).

Procedure

  1. Merge all PRs for the release. 2. npm version minor (or edit AssemblyInfo) via a chore(release): vX.Y.Z PR. 3. Merge, then git tag vX.Y.Z && git push --tags. 4. GitHub → Releases → Draft from tag → Generate notes → attach installer for plugins (06.07). 5. Announce per 13.02.
